Everything that has preceded a person in their life, prepares them for the present moment. For Janice, that includes a childhood caring for her siblings, working in the family businesses, an exemplary 20-year nursing career at Montefiore Medical Center in a variety of medical units including Urology, Gastroenterology, and Emergency Medicine and the successful completion of an MBA from Dominican College.
Vice President of Operations
Janice Green, BSN, RN, MBA, is the founder and CEO of JanCare, an organization focused on improving the lives of caregiving families through a unique approach to compassionate home care.
As a 20-year veteran of nursing practice, Janice became intimately aware of the challenges families faced as they struggled to find exceptional care—someone they trusted enough to care for their loved ones and keep them safe. The lack of safety protocols and elder abuse gives many families pause and the overwhelm alone can discourage even the most resilient. In response to this, Janice wanted to change the way the home health care industry connected with caregivers and their loved ones.
Her journey to founding JanCare began at the hospital as a registered nurse and educator. While working as a charge nurse supervisor in various specialties such as medical-surgical and gastroenterology, she understood how safety and follow up were paramount to providing exceptional care. She also realized that her level of compassion and her professional approach to care was uncommon to many of the patients she served. One particular experience confirmed this and changed everything.
While working for an private duty agency, Janice cared for a patient with stage 4 metastatic lung cancer. Janice caught the attention of her patient’s husband, who was so impressed with her methodology and leadership style, he encouraged her to start her own home care agency. He was adamant and continued to mention it after his wife passed away because he believed her standard of care was unlike most. He even encouraged her to name her agency JanCare after herself. So in 2014, she transitioned from hospital-based nursing to home health care full-time, leaving the hospital to build JanCare—a name that championed a level of compassion, which came naturally to her.
After starting her own agency, she continued to stay connected to the community. Leading a mentorship for Goldman Sachs’s One Million Black Women while also serving as a foundation member of the Hudson Valley Dutchess Chamber of Commerce and the Alzheimers Association, gave her opportunities to serve and influence those around her. Along with being a member of the Aging Life Care Association and the Home Care Association of America, she’s also been a panelist and presenter in Washington DC for the 2017 House Small Business Committee at Congress where she spoke during the session “Fostering Women’s Entrepreneurial Success.”
Today, almost 10 years after forming JanCare, Janice is laser focused on continuing to improve home care and maintain a standard of excellence for her clients.
“It’s not just the customized care plan that makes a difference; it’s not just the skilled nurses who serve alongside caregivers. It’s the level of care and concern with an emphasis on safety. It’s in the follow up and the follow through that we have JanCare. This is what makes our home care exceptional.”
