Frequently Asked Questions
What parts of the Hudson Valley do you serve?
JanCare serves all the communities in Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Ulster and Westchester Counties in New York State.
What services does JanCare provide?
Our service are organized into three categories:
Non-Medical Personal Care (Personal Care Aide and Home Health Aide)
Skilled Nursing Care (Registered Nurse)
Full Care Management (Certified Case Manager)
A final recommendation on which service is appropriate for every patient is only made after a registered nurse performs a thorough client and home assessment. The cost for this initial assessment is $250 and payable on the day of the assessment.
How is JanCare different from an Independent Contractor with a Registry or an Independent Caregiver?
Registries do not employ caregivers, they usually recruit, screen, then refer a caregiver to a client. They do not take responsibility for any training or supervision of a caregiver. In many cases, the client becomes the employer and takes on many of the responsibilities, such as worker’s compensation that would be handled by an agency.
Independent Caregivers, otherwise referred to as the “gray market” may be lower in cost, but the client is responsible for background checks, taxes, insurance and qualifying the experience and skills of the caregiver. This option exposes the client to risks of a caregiver with an unknown background. Including finding coverage in cases of emergencies and unexpected time-off.
There are some important differences to consider when hiring a caregiver. As a Licensed Home Care agency, JanCare takes on the full responsibility to conduct background checks, employ and train each caregiver that we place in a home. In addition, our caregivers are under the full-time supervision of a Registered Nurse. As an added benefit, we perform quality assurance visits to a client’s home, and are recognized as an approved agency for long-term care insurance reimbursement.
What tasks can a Home Health Aide perform?
Home Health Aides help patients with daily living functions, such as personal hygiene, running errands, meal preparation, light house cleaning, medication reminders, and accompanying scheduled medical appointments. Based on the client’s care plan, we will determine which aide best fits the care needs.
What tasks can a Personal Care Aide perform?
Personal Care Aides help patients with daily living functions, such as personal hygiene, running errands, meal preparation, light house cleaning, medication reminders, and accompanying scheduled medical appointments. Based on the client’s care plan, we will determine which aide best fits the care needs.
Are all caregivers employees of JanCare?
Yes. All our caregivers are hired by JanCare and are direct employees of JanCare. We are solely responsible for paying all taxes, insurance, and any other fees associated with the employment of each caregiver. Before a caregiver is hired, there is a pre-employment screening and after hiring, they are on-boarded and receive training beyond the federally mandated standard. That is what we mean by “beyond caring.”
How soon after a home assessment can JanCare place a caregiver?
Our standard procedure is to place a caregiver within 72 hours of the assessment. During this time we prepare a care plan after a consultation with the client’s support network. Also, it allows for any additional caregiver training specific to the case. However, there are cases that require a more expeditious start and we will work to accommodate those needs.
Do you accept Medicaid or Medicare as a form of payment?
JanCare accepts private pay directly from clients (Checks, ACH, Debit and Credit Cards) and we also accept payment from clients with long-term care insurance coverage.
What tasks can a Skilled Nurse perform?
Skilled Nurses provide a higher level of care and are prescribed by a physician. Services include performing health assessments, wound care, medication management and reconciliation, injections, ostomy care, IV hydration/IV infusions, foley/catheter care, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy feeding (PEG), and more. Coordinating with doctors and other healthcare professionals and performing comprehensive evaluations of a patient needs to keep them safe in their home.
